The 4th National Internship Challenge 2010 had just been completed. Altogether 50 team participated in the Zone Level comprising of 200 undergraduate students from 22 public and private institutions from all over Malaysia.
However, only 9 persistent team reached the final round which was held at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) in Kota Bharu on 24th of November 2010. This year’s 4th National Internship Challenge (NIC) was jointly organized with UMK and for the first time held outside the Klang Valley. The event was jointly launched by YAD Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Hj Abu Hassan Bin Hj Omar, the Chairman of BASIS Holdings Sdn Bhd together with Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zainai bin Mohamed the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan at 9 in the morning.
It was a morning filled with laughter, excitement and tense moments; most importantly, a healthy competitive spirit shown by all participants. Though we had a morning shower, this did not in anyway dampened the spirit of the participants.

The above team had put in their best efforts and good team spirit to complete all the assigned tasks given to them. All had equal opportunities to win.
The team were tested on their skills such as endurance, team spirit, communication, cooperation, leadership qualities, commitment, passion, creativity, problem solving and general knowledge. While on the bus going to their checkpoints, they were requested to observe important landmarks as these form parts of the answers to the questions already set.
The clues of the assigned tasks were stationed at two different checkpoints. The teams were required to complete each tasks before proceeding to the next checkpoint. Each tasks emphasized different learning points. For 2010 NIC, we were very grateful to Azrul Batik, Kota Bharu, Kelantan and AZZ Marketing, Pasir Mas, Kelantan for cooperating with Jobmarket in providing their premises for the assigned tasks.
The concepts and ideas behind the challenges were to expose the participants to the realities at workplace. The participants were given briefings at each checkpoints by the representatives and cautioned them on certain safety measures. At the same time, the participants were tested and being observed on the above mentioned skills. They were also briefed on the system already in place and the rules and regulations for them to observe. Thanks God everything went smoothly without any mishaps. We wish to thank Azrul Batik for providing the participants with tasty breakfast.

i. Conteng-conteng batik (canting batik)
|
Each team member were given a piece of cloth with outline design measuring 20” inch x 15’ inch. They were provided with tools and colours. They must draw their artistic expertise and creativity to use various colour of dye on the design given within a specific time. Before starting, they must plan and imagine how the finished product would look like. Time being the constraint, they must come to an agreement on the colour scheme. Also, patience and passion must be exercised in drawing the contures of the design in order to achieve the maximum effect.

Second Checkpoint: AZZ Marketing

i. Slimy grimy pond
|
Each team were required to catch Clarias Batrachus otherwise known as ikan keli in the man-made pond with almost three-quarter of the water drained as many as possible within the time and using the apparatus given. These were no easy task, as the characteristic of ikan keli were slimy and fast-moving fish. While having fun, the team members must be cautious as well of their safety when catching the fish. They have to use all the techniques, their endurance skills, overcame their fear and above all in order to win they must complete the tasks within the specific time. It was fun and hilarious to see the activities in action. Prior to this, they were given written questions on the characteristics and breeding of ikan keli. This information can be found on the pamphlets given and on the chart of the premises.

ii. Treasure store
|
Again, within the time given, they were to pick up RM50 worth of food packages, product of ikan keli from the premise store and to assemble them in a hamper. Marks were given for creativity, speed, neatness, budgeting and overall presentation.

iii. Wet, wet and wet some more
|
A short game requiring, leadership, communication, quick decision making, speed using the ball given.

Points were given to team which accomplished the task within the time given. Most team completed the assigned tasks successfully within the time given but some team finished well ahead of schedule because they were more coordinated, systematic, creative and excercised quick thinking decision making process.
At the conclusion of the challenge, the Champion and Runners Up were:-
1st Place = PMM EVO from Politeknik Merlimau, Melaka
2nd Place =FRONTIER from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP)
3rd Place = TECHNOPRENUER from Universiti Tun Hussien Onn Malaysia (UTHM)
Congratulations to the winners!!
The winners received cash prize of RM 3000, RM 2000 and RM 1000 respectively plus hampers and goodies. All participating team also received certificates as well as hampers and other gift.
The prize giving ceremony was held at UMK at 8.30 in the evening on the same day. The prizes were given by YAD Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Hj Abu Hassan Bin Hj Omar, the Chairman of BASIS Holdings Sdn Bhd, as well as by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mortaza bin Mohamed, Timbalan Naib Caunselor UMK and accompanied by Datin Paduka Juma’ah Moktar, CEO Jobmarket Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
